Connect with your advisor for help with course selection, major exploration, academic planning, degree audits, registration, and navigating university policies. They’re also here to support you if you’re facing academic challenges or need guidance along the way.

Mentoring at IU Bloomington puts students on the right path to success. Through the Office of Mentoring Services and Leadership Development, the Faculty and Staff for Student Excellence (FASE) Mentoring Program pairs freshmen with upperclassmen peer mentors who help guide younger students —or protégés—through the critical first year of college. You also will be able to participate in FASE Mentoring events, including free etiquette dinners, bowling, and the homecoming pre-tailgate party.

FASE participants, too, can become leaders themselves in the program during their sophomore year, while sophomores, juniors, and seniors have opportunities to benefit from the advice and support of faculty mentors who help students develop their talents and prepare for success during college and beyond.

Every IU 21st Century Scholar also has access to a success coach—someone focused on helping you stay on track and make steady progress toward your goals. Success coaching provides personalized support to help you manage the day-to-day demands of college and stay in good standing with your scholarship.

Connect with your success coach for guidance on scholarship requirements, academic progress, and making the most of campus resources. They can also help you build effective time management and study strategies while navigating the transition to college life.

You’re encouraged to reach out for support with:

  • Scholarship maintenance and requirements
  • Academic progress and goal setting
  • Time management and study skills
  • Connecting to campus resources
  • Adjusting to college life

Working with a tutor is a great way to study—you don’t have to need help to consult with a tutor. You can talk about your work, ask to explain the homework to the tutor in order to review the material and make sure you clearly understand. This is a free service at IU and a good opportunity to connect with students dedicated to one subject matter. Take advantage of it!

The  IU 21st Century Scholars Program in partnership with the IU Academic Support Center provides FREE weekly tutoring service for all students.

21st Century Scholars have many opportunities to access helpful, informative, and free workshops on relevant college topics—such as transitioning to college from high school, understanding the 21st Century Scholarship and Covenant (for students who entered prior to 2026), living on a college budget, developing leadership skills, studying overseas, applying to graduate school—to promote career and professional development.

Starting in fall 2026, eligible Indiana students with a family adjusted gross income (AGI) of $60,000 or less and remaining financial need may qualify for the Hoosier Crossroads Grant. This grant provides up to $5,500 in additional gift aid to help cover expenses beyond tuition— including housing, books, meals, and other costs. The grant is available to new, first-year students enrolling at IU Bloomington.
